This is a one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited program in tumor pathology during which fellows are actively engaged in the examination of anatomic pathology material submitted to the Department of Pathology under the supervision of the attending staff.
The material comprises over 60,000 surgical specimens (including 20,000 departmental consults) and 45 autopsies per year.
The educational program’s philosophy involves direct handling of large volumes of interesting and complicated cases by the fellows. Rotations are organized by subspecialty, including breast, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, thoracic, hematopathology, head and neck, soft tissue and bone, dermatopathology, neuropathology, and intraoperative consultations (frozen sections). An elective period is also provided. Participation in research projects by the fellows is encouraged.
