The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has an open RFP for the 2023 Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS) Program. The CAMS is a highly competitive program that supports physician scientists who are committed to an academic career, to bridge postdoctoral/fellowship training and the early years of faculty service. The award provides $700,000 over 5 years, and funds proposals in the area of basic biomedical, disease-oriented, or translational research. The Foundation anticipates making up to 10 awards, to start September 2023.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Applicants must hold an MD, DDS, DO or DVM degree.
- Applicants must not be more than 13 years past a clinical doctorate degree (on or after Jan 1, 2009).
- VISA status must allow an applicant to remain at the awardee institute for the duration of the award.
- Applicants may hold a non-tenure-track junior faculty appointment; tenure-track appointees are not eligible.
- Applicants that have institutional start-up funds, NIH R01 or Early Independence awards are not eligible.
- A mentor or faculty sponsor of the applicant must hold an appointment at the awardee institute.
- Awardees must devote at least 75% of their time to research.
- Proposals involving large-scale clinical trials or health services research are not funded.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women and underrepresented minorities. In addition, 2 awards will be made to clinically trained psychiatrists whose research is at the interface of psychiatry and neuroscience.
The deadline for applications is October 4th, 2022.
